My Wii stops reading discs when i close wii cover

I've unscrewed opened and closed my wii like 10 times the past few days to try to get my wii key working. My wii works fine when i have no cover on it. It plays backups and originals but When i screw everything back together my wii starts getting picky and i get disc read errors.
If i take off the cover and rest the dvd drive in its place w/o screws its a tiny bit lopsided b/c of the wii key but works. Is this normal? As soon as i screw everything back together i get disc read errors. Is there some trick to it or is my wii key sticking out too much. I used the quick solder method

Try putting tape over all connections. Make sure your not bridging any of the connections. If you keep having issues then maybe install it via wires and place the Wiikey in a slot next to the DVD drive. It fits perfectly inside it.
