hitachi v78 single layer firmware and dual speed mode?

I am wondering if there is a firmware for the hitachi v78 that supports playing single layers like the sammys. Is there one? Also is there a firmware like the sammys where you can pick how quiet the drive speed is? From what I understand the v78 is one of the quietest ones, is this true?

No single layer FW for Hitachi's. And there is no fast/quiet that I'm aware of for Hitachi drives either.

In my experiences, the Hitachi 0078FK drive is the worst drive in terms of quality. I've seen about a 5 to 1 ratio of the 78 dying over every other Hitachi model.

is it worth getting an ms25 and spoofing it to a v78 hitachi then? Will it be quieter and more reliable and will it be an easy thing to do?
