OK,I'm new to all this Wii stuff and some things are troubling me.

I'm scared of getting my Wii blocked if i play backed up games online.

Yes,i did see the stickied guide but i can't say i understood it all and that's why I'd like to ask a few questions((please respond as if you were talking to a seven year old) :

I live in France and bought my wii here so if I were to "borrow" a Wii game from an American, Would it be playable on my wii?

What is a region brick?

Why do region bricks happen?

If i play online with a backed up game will my wii get bricked?

What's a region patch?

How do you enable a region free option on your Modchip?

If i buy i Wiikey will it work in my French Wii?

Believe me,I've searched for responses to these questions but the answers were always explained in an overly complicated manner.
Thank you.

There are 3 types of wii currently available; PAL, NTSC-USA and NTSC-Japan. Since you bought the wii in France it should be a PAL version.

What is a region brick?
Bricking / Region bricking happens when you over-write the firmware inside the wii with an incorrect region one. i.e. You can brick a PAL wii by updating from a NTSC game. You can brick a NTSC wii by updating from a PAL game. You can play PAL games without fear of bricking. Just be careful of non-PAL games.

There are two types of bricking; semi-brick and brick. Semi-brick is where the options are no longer available but games still run, and brick is where you totally kill the wii and it will not load from DVD.

What's a region patch?
Region patch is where you alter the iso of a game while it is on a computer before you burn it to DVD. You over-write the original region code with a new one, usually to match your console. In your case you may have a Japanese NTSC game that you patch to become PAL. Note that you do not change the game, only the flag/marker on the DVD that says what region it is.

How do you enable a region free option on your Modchip?
The modchip has a configuration program that allows you to change details within the chip. One of that options (for the wiikey at least) is to enable region free. This makes the wii think all discs inserted are the correct region. With this option set you no longer need to patch them with a new region code.

If i play online with a backed up game will my wii get bricked? Not at the moment. But this could change. Or they could find a way of blocking modded wiis from playing online.

If i buy i Wiikey will it work in my French Wii?
Yes.

I believe the French wii is the standard PAL version with the French language selected. You can change this to other European languages if you wish from within the options menu. (Somebody please confirm this as I have a JAP version).

Also look into BrickBlocker. This program removes game updates from the iso.
