The CD swapping works fine, it's the DVD. I use TY discs burned at 4x, and they run fine on my roommate's chipped PS2. It's so slow the games are completely unplayable. Could I have a busted Swap Magic disc?

Have you tested a retail DVD game or movie?

Sounds like the laser is toast.

Taiyo Yuden DVD videos run fine, and retail discs are no problem either. The only thing it can't handle are backups after the Swap Magic disc. It's a relatively new PS2, and there are no loading problems at all with retail discs.
