What does WMA playback do?

on the system settings, there is a option that says enable WMA playback.
What is that for? I know the flash enables you to view flash files on internet but not sure what the 'enable wma playback option do.

It enables playback of Windows (i think MP3) files.

WMA is windows proprietary audio format (windows media audio) - similar to mp3 but mp3 is usually the most common audio format used for music.
Unless of course you use like Napster - wma files w/ drm.
