I have and issue that after conversion it does not successfully download to dvd. it will not playback due to area limitations. can anyone assist?

To be clear, you have downloaded a DivX or XviD file and after conversion and burning to DVD, the standalone player gives a warning about "area limitations"?
Does the DVD disk play on the PC ok?

Yes. The movie plays back on the pc just perfect. Another thing I have tried to download movies to DVD-R but my computer does not pick them up. My default is ELITE-DVD+RW. Is there any way for me to change the device media type to DVD-R?

I'm still not clear about the 'Area Limitations' problem.
Is it possible that you have burned the DVD to the wrong video format?

An example would be if you were in a PAL region like Europe and you burned the disk to the format used in North America (NTSC).

How did you convert the downloaded file from AVI to DVD format?
Which program did you use?

Also I am not clear about 'Elite'.
Is this the brand name of the disks or the standalone DVD player?

hmmm are these files off the net at size 4.38gig ? and when unpacked an .iso?

I do get them off the net. convertxtodvd. ummm i really dont know how to respond to the rest of your question because i dont know what unpacking and iso is? I can tell you that i do download avi media types if that helps.

what about changing my settings so that my computer can copy on to a dvd-r as oppossed to dvd+r?

ok its an avi - use convertxtodvd to make avi to dvd files, then use imgburn to booktype your +R to dvd-rom / burn
