I have been trying to use the double layer DVDs to burn TV shows. Been trying to avoid using a compression on them, so I can get all the features and best picture. I'm funny that way :)
After I burn, using the Shrink It 3.2 program, it will not play at all or will play some episodes and not others, or just the menu will load up.
Is it that the program can't read/properly use the larger DVDs? Is it a feature that I'm missing for it to work? Please help, I don't want to waste anymore of these DVDs, they are too expencive to waste. Thank you

well i dont use any double layer DVDs, but what i do use are DVD-R format. For some reason DVD+R are (in my experience) the worse. Seems that every other DVD+R turns into a coaster, but if i put the same ISO on a DVD-R it works. This could just be DVD player(s) and/or computer, but whatever works, right?

I have used DVD - AND + r'S AND RWs and they all work flawlessly in my dvd player. It seems to be the DLs that are the issue and that's why I was wondering if it's Shrink that can't handle it.

Lemme guess... Memorex dual layer? Only dual layer discs to trust in many peoples opinion around here is Verbatim.
How fast were you burning your disc? DL's burn much slower than singles. DL discs are subtly different than singles, but not much.
__edit---you are right too about Shrink not being made for DL discs. try setting shrink to save your disc to .iso file, than use
IMGburn http://www.imgburn.com/ to setup your layer break and burn

Also make sure you're DVD burner is set to booktype +R DL disks as DVD-ROM. It probably already is but sometimes not or it may have been reset.
I wholeheartedly agree with Deadrum33 about using ImgBurn for burning and using Verbatim +R DL media.
Also make sure the firmware for your burner is up to date.

Yes, they are Memorex. Please forgive a new girl at this burning thing. I didn't know better and have blond roots ;)
I'll try downloading that program, see if that works. Thank you :)

Agree with Laddyboy and Deadrum, Verbatim is the way to roll with dual layer. supermediastore.com is a great place to get them if no one local to you carries them.
Memorsux are bad news.
And set your burn speed at no more than half of it's capable speed. Takes longer, but less burn errors = less coasters. That, and the quality is usually better.

Since we need more blond rooted TallGirl(s) around here, I wont tease about the whole memorex thing. :P
Chances are, if you follow the way the programs work, the disc will work. But with cheap discs you wont be able to watch them a year down the road because they degrade faster than normal, or they wobble so much you cant burn to the outer edges and projects die right when you think they should be done.

Blond rooted tallgirl,
What errors are you getting?
Stupid = not being able to learn.
ignorant = not knowing something, but able to learn it, thus, ignorance is curable!
You're seeking help from people who are more familiar with the process. That kind of rules out stupid. :D How can we help?

Maybe it was my fault,
Originally posted by ME!!!: save your disc to .iso file, than use

If its an .iso (image)made from a different program, it already has the information on it for layer break and such.
The guide laddyboy supplied is the right one, and it uses the VIDEO_TS folder Shrink makes.
I tried skipping a step in the process and what I said would be fine for a single layer disc but not good for a dual layer.
Let us know where the problem is TallGirl!!!

I'm trying to remember the error message.
They have been near the end of the process. I really can't remember the exact message. I guess I could try and burn another disk to get the error. What I find interesting is the time I didn't make a "break" there was no error, but the times when I did follow the directions and put a break in, I got the errors.

Tallgirl(with the great sense of humor, a big big plus) could you please tell us exactly in gruesome detail what your method to your madness is? Thanks so much. This may help us to help you.

You keep mentioning the program that is your biggest problem when burning DL, & that is Dvd Shrink. It should never be involved with Dual Layer. If you create an ISO & MDS file on your hard drive, then you would burn the MDS file with ImgBurn, because that contains the layerbreak information. If you create Video files on your hard drive, then you would create a folder & call it VIDEO_TS, move your Video files in to it & then use ImgBurn in Build Mode, browsing to the VIDEO_TS file you made.

Soup1 is partly right, there are better, free programs to use to rip the disc to your hard drive (like DVDFab http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm ) if you know you are going to use a dual layer disc.
That being said, there is no reason you cant use the video file already made by Shrink to finish the project in the ways explained by laddyboys link and repeated in Soup1's post.
