I'm currently looking into what can be done on my PAL PS2 with a HDD and just found out about these software products.
Is it true i got to have the 40GB original hard drive to make use of games that have HDD features?? Like Final Fantasy XI online play, socom III downloads, or does the latest version work with these games?

I have read a quote about HDadvance 3.0 saying...

"DVD-9/DVD/CD backup/import games can be converted directly without Slide Tool or Flip Top cover."

What do they mean with "can be converted"? Can i play imports/back ups using this software and can i copy them to the harddrive?

What software should i choose, which has the best features?
HDloader latest version 3.8C seems able to let you make use of a hard drive as big as you want while HDAdvance 3.0 latest version let you choose only as big as a 200GB hard drive.
But HDloader doesn't comment on import/back up compatibility while HDadvance does.

I know it's a lot of questions but i just found out about these products and was amazed of what can de done, just want to make sure i will do the right thing when i commit to buy something.
I guess the PS2 wiil defenitly in the center of my room again.;)

PS: I also know about the USBeXtreme product but that seems a bit of a hassle to transfer games to an external HDD, a big internal HDD seems best i think.

I dont know about final fantasy or socom as ive havnt tried them games on the hdd yet.

Off the top off ma head...
U can copy original games through the ps2 by just loading hdloader then pushing eject to insert and copy game.
If ur using a copy (Backup) disc you have to use the slide card to copy the game through the ps2.

If you do it through the computer then you can use back ups or originals. (I recommend the computer way to make your ps2 lazer last longer or ftp it to the ps2)

You have to use the computer to copy dual layered games to the hdd..

Hdloader is free for download and has been updated from the latest hdadvance. But you need to use a way of playing backups to use it since u dowloading and burning. (Hdadvance can be bought and loaded without any swap methods)

I say the best basic thing to buy would be swap magic. (Unless your going for a modchip)

as you can play backup discs as well as load hdloader/advance, usbextreme or any homebrew programs out there (Media players) by downloading an burning or chucking them on mem card or usbsticks...

hope that helped..

You helped me further on my way but to stop the confusion i have...
Isn't HDloader 3.8C available on a pressed disc like HDadvance??
If yes, HDloader boots up without the need for a modified PS2,swap magic or memory card exploit right??
I want to keep it user friendly and convert games without the computer, and use a slide tool with back ups/imports.
I have a link here that says you can order it instead of downloading it.

http://www.hdloader.org/ps2order.asp

Anyway, is there a favorite hard drive that works fine with HDloader 3.8C starting at 300GB or higher?

if you're gonna get a hdd, go with maxtor. the original 40gig was a maxtor, so they have high compatability.

also, if you do installs from the ps2, expect at least an hour or two for each game.

ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure

got a whole lot more to list . . .

Anybody here??
Can someone please tell me if HDloader 3.8C is available to buy it on a disc instead of a download?
And does it load up on a standard PS2 without the need of a modification, slide card,... etc??
HDloader seems to come with it's own memory card while HDavance isn't, why is that??

Sorry if i'm a bit unpatient but i like to place my order soon. ;)

go to the official hdloader website. they have it for all regions.

and like i said before, expect at least an hour or two for each game install when you use the ps2.

sorry for da reply.

If you want to keep it basic then yip that hdloader would be best to get, and it should be pressed since thats the only reason i can see why the would charge for it..

Only if you want to go advance later on like using emlators, media playa etc would u want to go for the way i said. Or modchip :)

in saying that i have never tried that version before. could have emulators on it???? i dunno.

are you able to keep us posted?

cheers

I allready have an xbox with mediacenter and emulators,...etc.
With the Playstation 2 i want to keep it basic and just copy the original games to the HDD.
I'd propably buy a HDD for the PS2 big enough to copy at least 75 games or more in total!
How long does it take to copy a PS2 game on the PS2 in comparison with PC??
Is it that a wicked process doing it through PC??
And is it just as or more compatible then simply doing it on a PS2??
I'd like to know more about how it's done on the PC to see if i should do it the PC way or just buy a 2nd PS2 or laser if my original gives up on me.

I posted a new topic on this yesterday.

Yes, i will be able to keep posting as i wanna go through with this application.

Cheers
