is there a way to encode a dvd movie to a size of around 700-750 mb? i just backed up one movie, but the file was 1.4 gb.

because some friends were able to find full-feature, encoded .avi dvd-quality movies that fit on one CD.
so can you please tell me the proccess/programs i need to get?
cheers

What did you use to encode the movie?

Using Gordian Knot to encode your movies, will give you accurate file sizes, give or take 10 Mbytes at times.

it looked easier to use gordian knot, but not getting any luck. decoding the dvd2avi is not working, eventhough i did the same steps i used for another movie using the "Copy your DVD into DivX5 format".
Is there a guide to using Gordian Knot anywhere on the net?
what do you suggest?
cheers

cheers for goridan knot

but the thing is i'm trying to fit one movie, dvd quality, onto one CD. i mean my friend has a backup of the twin towers (a long, long movie) on two CDs, brilliant quality. i was just wondering if anyone knows a way to encode a DivX file of a regular feature film (i.e. 1.5-2 hrs), into approx. 750Mb.

cheers, and sorry for all the trouble

Gordian Knot has a bitrate calculator that will help you with that.
