Then yeah, try switching media. Try Verbatim 8X.
Or maybe it was a bad burn?

Slower is not always better. If Joe Ryan were here he could explain in great detain, but simply put, the lasers of newer, faster, burners can damage a disc if the speed is too slow because the increased power of the laser can burn pits and lands too deep into the media's recording layer. Slow burns can be just as bad as getting a jittery inconsistent burn from high speed burns.

No I don't think it's the Wii's firmware. No you cannot downgrade the Wii's formware.
It probably is just a bad download.

I agree. This game reminds me a lot of my previous favorite super mario, super mario 64! Back to the basics! I love it, it's a blast to play and even my wife plays with me.

I have a question
I have a wii modded with a chip that is not updatable... (i think)
if I buy a original SMG and it updates my firmware to 3.1, will it work?
and will the other backup games continue working?
for what i found out on forums, the security block on the game is on the midia used, and not on the device installed in the console...
i've searched a multitude of forums for these specific answers, but all I can find are similar questions, that doesnt really answer what i need to know..
any help would be appreciated.
thanks!

RoTF: From what I can gather, the SMG has a method of detecting the chip. The Wii's firmware doesn't have anything to do with it. You need to patch the ModChip / WiiKey to change how it behaves so that the SMG detection no longer works.
Naturally, we all purchase our legal copies of games before using a DVD burned backup - thus ensuring the pristine integrity of our original purchase.
