i just got my WiiKey yesterday and did ALOT of reading and must admit it is very confusing. My setup works fine and I can share my experience. I have a PAL wii with WiiKey version 1.3 (i think), it's definitely NOT 1.9b or 1.9g. My Firmware got updated with the Super Paper Mario PAL version I downloaded from usenet, i'm guessing it's version 2.2 or 3.0... I'm not sure myself.

First decision you will have to make is if you want to play other regions on your Wii. If yes, then you're gonna have to do ALOT of reading and researching to find out how to keep your Wii alive. For further info, read the sticky: GUIDE -- HOW TO PROTECT FROM REGION BRICK. If you weren't able to figure everything out by yourself by now, then I would recommend sticking with Games from your own region.

If you ONLY want to play games with the same region as your Wii, then the installed version of your WiiKey should be just fine. I am on version 1.3 (I think) and all burned PAL games work like a charm. Indeed, only tried two games (Super Paper Mario and Resident Evil 4), but both worked on the first try.

You DO NOT need to do ANY updating whatsoever if you stick with the games from your region, the games will update your system for you (if applicable).

Burning games is very easy. Use IMGBurn and read the sticky on how to back up games: HOW to backup WII GAMES.(guide). After explaining how to rip Wii games (ONLY possible with a LIMITED number of DVD drives), it explains how to burn a downloaded ISO onto a DVD. Most people swear on Verbatim or Toiyo DVD's. I used Imation DVD+R. Make sure the empty DVD size is 4.7 GB and burn like a regular ISO.

Again, if you stick with the region of your Wii, then you do not require ANY updating. Hope I could help.

This is exactly what i have been looking for, thanks! All the talk of 1.2, 1.3 configuration disks 1.9b and 1.9g updates and firmware updates can get very confusing.
Guessing now that sticking with PAL games and doing my firmware updates via the internet i should be safe.
