How do I know what I flashed with ? / Update Firmware?

Hey yall...so I'm an idiot...I know. I do not remember what method I used to flash my xbox or what firmware I have on there...I am not totally caught up on all the different ways...I think i have iextreme but im not sure...so my question is...Is there a way to check to see how or what method was used to flash the drive of a 360?

My second question is...once I know how I flashed it...IF there is an update...SHOULD i update? Everything seems to be working fine for me except I get a open tray error alot which im going to try the rubber band method and stuff this afternoon to see if that helps...but aside from that its fine...is it vital to update my flashed firmware ?
