TV DVD's to AVI/Divx

I was wondering how I could take my favorite TV Shows on DVD and convert them to avi/divx. Is there a way to break up the dvd in order to have one file per episode? Also, how big will these files/episodes be? will they be around 300 mb? Any info into this would be great.
