Ive been using Dvd Shrink and Dvd Decrypter for a while now, and worked fine up until I reformatted my computer.

After reformatting, my drive seems to be ripping and burning movies at a slow rate, and my CPU usage jumps around from 50-100%.
Before I was able to burn a movie in 30-45 minutes, ripping and burning. Now it takes me 30+ minutes to rip and about 1 hour+ to burn.

I checked both my Primary and Secondary IDE channels, and they are both on 'DMA if avaliable' on the transfer modes.

Can somebody help me with this?

DMA if available is what is in the Transfer Mode window.

What is in the Current Transfer Mode window when checking the Advanced Settings?

For the Primary, the Current Transfer Mode on Device 0 is Ultra DMA Mode 5 while the Device 1 is on PIO mode.

My old mind might be playing tricks on me, but I seem to remember way back when I used DvdFab, that it had the reset DMA function or did they take it out of recent releases? Although I do thank you for the tip, but as I haven't had to use DvdFab in a long time & the fact that my DMA is fine, plus I wouldn't download & install a program, just to fix my DMA, when it can be easily done from my desktop, but again, thanks for the info.

Huh...well heres the thing.
I had DVDFab on my computer, so yeah I got the option of setting my drive to DMA mode, BUT after restarting my computer, the current transfer mode is still on PIO mode.
Whats up with that?

Follow the directions supplied by soup and go into the Device Manager and reset DMA.

Quote:
Right click on My Computer
Select Properties
Click on Hardware
Click on Device Manager
Double click on IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
Double click on Primary channel
Click Advanced Settings and check it says DMA if available and is set to Ultra DMA, mode 5.
Do the same for the secondary channel -- it should be Ultra DMA, mode 2.
Don't worry if it says "Not applicable" - it means there is no device connected to that port.

Those are the general run of the mill instructions when DMA crops up. Optical drives are usually on the Secondary channel with HDs on the Primary..
