Can somebody tell me or point me to a tutorial that explains how to do this? I know you can do it with Gordian Knot, but I need to know how to do it with Virtual Dub. Is there a special filter I need perhaps?

Unless you are talking about VBR then there is no way to have the credits use a lower bitrate AND be connected to the main video (i think).
