hi im getting a new 360 i have a hitachi drive from my old dead 360 if my new one is samsung can i swith the drives? also if i cant do that is it hard to flash the samsung? is it dif from hitachi ?

Your new one won't contain a samsung drive. You'll either get a BENQ or a Hitachi 79. Better hope for the BENQ.

Check the drive database and compare lot numbers to ensure you get a BENQ.

they guy did tell me he was all out of hitachi drives so i guess its a samsung or benq

i thought the hitachi was flashable. you just had to chip it first.

my first drive was a hitachi i dint not have to chip it tho i got it when 360 first came out

The Hitachi drives in new store-bought Xbox 360's are 0079FL's which require you to solder the Maximus 0079 Passkey onto the drive in order to enable modeB (which then you flash just like a 0078 drive)

The BENQ drive is flashable with the VIA 6421a chipset (I can comfirm this one, it works with the nForce chipset as well)

If you have flashed any ms28 drives before, you can flash a BENQ.

ya i know you dont have to chip the original hitachi drives. ive flashed 4 of them this week. i just thought for the new versions of them, they had to be chipped to be flashed.

every 360 drive is flashable. The new hitachi 0079's require the passkey to be soldered to the pcb as ps2 said. The benq is alot easier to flash than the v79 because you dont have to buy that expensive piece of hardware.

thats what i thought, but john stated that the hitachi's couldnt be flashed yet. just wanted to make sure that i wasnt misleading people elsewhere.

I dont know where the hell john has been. It seems like if he knew the benq was flashable he would've known the hitachi v79's were also as they were flashable way before the benq's.

i i just downloaded a tutorial for the benq drive called total noob tutorial, looks like alot of steps tho, is there a shorter tutorial that is easier or do i have to use this?

ok the drive i have now that is flashed is a hitachi 0047dj...if i can do that i can flash benq right? not sure what ms28 is im guessing a dif hitachi drive?

ms28 is a TS-Samsung drive not hitachi.
The benq does however require some soldering on the pcb which is the only real difference between flashing a samsung.

You don't need to solder anything with a BENQ... as long as you use DOSFLASH 1.3 Beta

nForce chipsets and VIA PCI SATA cards are the only ones I know that are compatable to flash the BENQ as of right now.

No, it's easy.

Just dump the FW
Check the FW for a valid key with FWToolbox 4.5
make hacked fw
check hacked fw with FWtoolbox to see if key is valid
erase the fw from the benq
write the hacked fw to the benq.

i just got a email back from the ebay guy and i was told that it was most likely a samsung ms 25 or ms 28 are those easy?

ms25/28 are really easy to do. should only take about 10 minutes max to flash it after you get the 360 torn apart.

thanks im sure i can find some tutorial when i get these thing in the mail woo hoo...its a bumer my old hitachi died anyone want to buy a flahed hitachi drive since i cant use it lol
