have downloaded files in MKV format which works with Classic media player but want to convert it to AVI file so i can burn it to DVD any ideas. Thanks

DVD Flick will burn mkv to DVD: http://beginwithsoftware.com/videoguides/dvd-flick-guide.html So does ConvertXtoDVD. Not sure but AviMux_Gui may convert mkv to avi.

hillman40, maybe you also can try winavi video converter. It can convert mkv to avi/dvd..., also, it supports to burn.

I personally like The FilmMachine. It has many options and capabilities of editing AVISynth scripts. Also can use 4 different encoders which includes ProCoder, CCE, HCenc, and QueEnc. You could also try AVI2DVD if simplicity is key. Both these programs convert MKV to DVD, but The FilmMachine will actually burn directly to DVD.
