I have been researching for a method for how to get my laser to work again but no luck. I've decided to run games off a harddrive instead. But i dont know how. I've seen HD Loader but i think it requires a boot disc to be run BEFORE it can run backups off a harddrive.

Is there a way I can run games off a harddrive if my ps2 is already modded?
I need a solution that does not require the use of my ps2 dvd drive because its dead. =(

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance! =)

you can skip the laser if you have a modchip that can store and boot ps2 elf files. if you have a chip that can, then you can use the hdloader elf.

ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure

got a whole lot more to list . . .

no. you can't put hdloader on the hdd because it won't be read when the ps2 is started. the hdloader elf has to be on the modchip.

you have to find out what chip you have in your ps2, because all other methods require the laser. you'll have to open the ps2 and find out what modchip it is.

i'm thinking you just have a basic modchip; just plays imports and copied games. if you can remember who installed the chip, then ask them what kind it is. otherwise, you'll have to get a new laser and replace the old one.

i really dont want to disassemble the unit because I dont have a clue how-to. I realize the ps2 does run GT 3 but only the first couple intro (sony entertainment, warnings) but then freezes up. Though is this enough to run HD Loader?

not sure. the memory card exploit only needs to read the ps1 game for a few seconds, but it depends on the laser wear and tear. you can probably get away with that.

only ps1 games. there was a buffer overflow that was triggered with ps1 games, on the fat ps2. by taking the ps1 cd code, and recompiling the ps2 configuration file on the ps2 memory card with elf files, you're able to exploit the system.
