Never updated my wiikey could i get little help?

so i bought my wiikey back when it was really new so sure i have the earliest version if not the second one. question is how do i go about updating it? i never really bothered with it cause i really didn't care cause every game till now worked (Mario Galaxy doesn't *sigh*) so i put the wiikey update 1.9g on a disc and put it in my wii and said it couldnt read it. so question is...

1. do i need to update it in order? like maybe need to use 1.x update to use this new update.

2. could it be a soldering problem?

3. do i need newer wiikey?

sorry if its posted everywhere around here but i couldn't find exactly how to do it or something that would tell me if its just a problem with my wiikey. i will continue to look but could use some help now :)

Also just wondering is there a way to update it through wi-fi? or something other then burning it to a disk? just wondering.
