I picked up a new ps2 from best buy and they had two different models, the 77001 v15 and the 79001 i'm assuming v16. I?ve heard that the v15 has various problems so I decided to grab the newest v16 model.

The glitch:
I turn the ps2 on and it shows the browser screen, starts to load the game and about a second after the ps2 logo pops up green and white lines flash along the bottom of my tv. It seems to be random pixels being activated mostly along the bottom of the tv and sometimes a small line in the middle. I've tried 6 different games and they all do it to a different extent, even my copy of ff12 that I bought with the ps2.

I?ve used the ps2 for a couple of hours since I bought it a few days ago, all the games I have load fine and don't freeze up. I don't mod my consoles so all my games are retail originals.

So my questions are:
1. Does anyone own a scph-79001 and have a similar glitch?
2. Has this problem occurred on previous ps2 versions, if so does any one know what causes it?
3. Could this be a sign of a defective console, or is it just a unique glitch to the scph-79001 version?

Update:
I put the ps2 through an 8 hour marathon session last night and it ran like a champ, no problems. The loading pixelation glitch still bothers me though, i think im going to try and exchange it for a new one. input from anyone who owns a scph-79001 ps2 would help me alot.

thanks

Someone has to own a scph-7900x ps2, please tell me does anyone notice any problems/changes from previous slim versions. Im going to exchange my ps2 and hope that the glitch is only a defective console and not a sign of defective/faulty lasers in all scph-7900x ps2's.

-any comment from any ps2 owner is welcome.

Update:
I exchanged the ps2 for the same 79001 model and the pixelation glitch is still there. I picked up a 2 year warranty for $20 and just said screw it, if it dies 2 years from now ill go next-gen by then anyway.

Something else I forgot to mention, the flip lid sensors didn't function correctly on the first 79001 ps2. If I put any pressure on the flip lid while playing a game it would freeze and skip eventually cutting out completely. I first discovered this when I griped the corner of the ps2 to turn it off. Also if I swapped games while the ps2 was off the laser arm wouldn't reset to the default position and wouldn't detect the disc. I had to open and close the flip lid again to reset the laser arm and have it read the disc.

Considering that no one has responded in the past couple days I?m hoping this is just a defective batch of ps2's and not a problem with all new models. In any case if someone finds this thread and has the same problems, you?re not the only one.
