I installed 4 Gig's of RAM on my desktop. just bought it a few months back and have Windows Vista Ulitmate installed. However it reads that I have 3.2 Gigs of RAM everywhere besides the BIOS. Anyone know what to do?

tell me if possible your mother board?
pc model, brand everything?
the break down of your ram, how many pieces, how much memory on each
brand? make sure each ram stick is compatible, is it DIMM or SIMM, some people make a big mistake here

this makes me think (maybe) that your ram limit is 3.2gig, my computers ram limit is 6gig, but i can put 8 on it, it'll only run 6gigs and ignore the rest but the BIOS will pick up the exact number

you should turn off your computer and unplug it from receiving any power, let it sit and discharge all residual power from the mother naturally, then open it up and vacuum the ram slots squeaky clean
i said, suck not blow (blowing causing damage by pushing it in further

-good luck

Vista 32bit will only see up to 3.2GB, vista 64bit will see as much as 8GB I believe.

agree with above. Certain OS's can only recognize a certain amount of RAM. It is not that it can not be used by programs that need it. It just will not show. Vista is 3.2GB, XP is 4GB (both the 32 bit versions) If you move up to 64bit versions it will recognize more but you may also have a lot of program conflicts that will make the change a waste.

Your best to upgrade the processor instead of the RAM and you will get better results. 3.2GB should be plenty to run just about anything.
