1) If you want to.

2)Yes, it will drain more power from your battery.

3)Yes.

I bet that your 8GB is slow because it's a counterfeit memory stick.

That's my guide in telling the difference between a fake MS and a real MS. I suggest that you use it.

Oh... I've never used an 8GB before. My 4GB is OK so I would stick to it.

If you want real speed, upgrade to Sony's Memory Stick PRO-HG. However, you could spend ten grand on a memory stick, but the PSP can only read/write to it at speeds of ~15-20MB/s (PSP-1001). So the bottleneck is actually in the PSP itself. Overclocking the CPU to 333MHz is the default max, but I have hurt of success beta testing homebrew apps that can overclock it to 366MHz and 400MHz. Anything beyond 333MHz is running into the "melting-your-processor" problem. These apps are beta only and I've only seen my friend overclock it to that extent once. He disassembled the PSP, ran the overclocking app, and measured the temp at over 140*F after being on for only a few minutes. Use caution when pushing your PSP to the extreme limit.

There is no excuse NOT to mod! Don't follow the rules, make them!
