Alright, I know this probem seems a little old but I'm new to all this bricking stuff, found out about this like a few days ago. Anyway, I have a Japan Wii and it's semi-bricked (Settings show "Opera" page), and so I wanna unbrick it by updating my wiikey to 1.9b then to 1.9g and then using the SMG jap. But I just tried to update using the 1.9b and I get the disc error crap like everyone else did. I downloaded the 1.4GB 1.9b from here and burnt it using Nero and a Verbatim DVD-RW. So I insert the disc and the error occured after testing. Obviously the ejecting disc method is useless and I read that it shouldn't be the solder joint problem... So then I tried playing my back-up games to make sure everything was working and yep, the games still work... So what is the problem? Do I have to reburn the 1.9b?
PS: I'm not really sure what chip I have....maybe I'm taking for granted it's a Wiikey.... + DO NOT want to open up my Wii...I'm a rookie and I would rather live with not updating then spoiling my wii or going through the trouble of repairing it.
Oh, and another thing, is it really a MUST to update my Wii to 3.1? Or can I leave it be semi-bricked, and just avoid games that would brick my wii or use Wiibrickblocker. I'll sitll be able to play new games right? Argh....the agony of owning a Jap wii....! Lol.
