I got my wii chipped by a friend of a friend (yip- i know!) who said it was a wiikey.
I changed the region settings with the wiikey config disk, but when trying to update to 1.9b or 1.9g it failed every time.

So i opened the thing up and with very shakey fingers discovered lots of wires. Can anyone tell me what has been done here- is this another kind of chip at all? much appreciated.

Thanks.
Ok- now we are getting somewhere.

So i've had a look up the wiinja site and it doesn't say anything about playing jap discs on pal console. I can run Ghost Squad (jap) on my pall wii.

And the other strange thing is that the wiikey config disc changed the region setting so that i could play it.
any ideas?
If i try the smg update and its not a wiinja what would it do?

Ta.

Or a clone of one. What you need to find out is if it is one of these

1) Clone (not upgradeable)
2) Wiinja v1 (not upgradeable)
3) Wiinja v2 (not upgradeable)
4) Wiinja Deluxe (upgradeable)

Thanks for the Help guys.
The guy said its a pic chip that needs to be removed to be programmed.

I'm a tad *annoyed* to say the least!
Yeh- i really want to be opening it up every time in need to update it.
Wasted £40
now thinking of getting someone to put an official wiikey in it!!!!

:-(

Thanks for the help.

Take a look at these 2 threads. It should give you an idea of some options you have.

Thanks for that.
I'm not into reprogramming of chips etc- so will probably just get it removed and an official wiikey installed so it can be updated by dvd.

Cheers again for all the help.

What I meant was you could just order another upgradeable pic chip (Official Wiinja Deluxe) and put it into a chip holder so you don't really have to pay anyone else to do the work.

Thanks for the advice, but you're talking about things i don't understand. I think my best bet just now is to get the wiikey installed.

Thanks again anyway.

I guess it doesn't matter to be wasteful for having to AGAIN pay someone for an install when you could easily do it yourself when it is not that hard.

Well i would then need to unsolder the current chip which i've never done before so it seems logical to get someone else to do it rather than letting me loose to program a chip and resolder something else on.

Hey we learn by our mistakes. :-)

This may be true but you don't have to solder on the board of the Wii just remove the wires off the chip and then ONLY solder a pic chip holder in place (extremely easy) so that you can just plug in the replacement (upgradeable Wiinja Deluxe). Although you know your own skills or what you feel up to doing, but in all honesty you are a perfect example of what would be one easy upgrade that anyone can feasibly do without a problem.
