i want to know how do i transfer game saves to a ps2 slim 77001
does codebreaker or max drive work

You can use a usb drive and uLaunch to copy games saves

what format should the game save be

With the first method, you can download any game save and PS2 Savebuilder will open most any of them. You then extract it with PS2 Savebuilder as the guide shows and copy the whole folder to your mc.
With the max drive or AR MAx you will need the save to be a .max I believe. But with PS2 Savebuilder, you can again open any save and then save it as a .max file, because its memory manager will uncrush the save for you.
