well, i just bought a sony mini-dvd camcorder to make home movies. when i import the mpg files into premiere 6.0, i can't do anything because the program starts running incredibly slow.

do i need to do anything to the mpg files before importing them into premiere - i.e. compressing them first? is this why premiere is running so slow?

i know it can't be my laptop. i just purchased a toshiba p25-507 with a 2.8 pentium 4 with hyper-threading, 512mg of ram and a 60gig hard drive and a 32mg nvidia 5200 graphics card.

somebody help.
