I created a thread several days ago asking why people tell others to always burn super slow...2x, 4x max no higher... things like that.

I understood it when the PS2 first came out due to media being so new that the technology was "iffy" in the perfect quality burn arena. Media then wasn't as fast as it is now and media of the same speed wasn't as good of quality either.

Today, when i continued to read that, i didn't believe it and i have finally received my D2C modded wii and was playin Wii Sports on it more than anything. I think i would have been better off just buyin the regular wii version and just bowl for the rest of my life without another game...

Anyways, back on topic-
I took a TDK DVD-R 16x disc and a Verbatim Metal Azo Dye DVD-R 16x and burned Far Cry on them both at 6x using ImgBurn. I was going to use Alcohol 120% but it did not recognize the image.

After burning them both, i tested each one in the Wii.
I had already been playing Sports for 3.5 hrs.

Far Cry on both discs loaded in the Channel section in the same speed it took Sports to load.
As soon as i chose the game and hit start, it loads just like a pressed disc with no errors.

I was certain that disc burn speeds were completely irrelovent for this or any console. High burn speeds only cause problems if the media has conflictions with the burner it is using.
Now, i only use Lite-on and Pioneer drives. I burned both discs with Pioneer. I am able to burn these discs up to 8x as well with no performance jitter problems either.
8x is the fastest that i can go before the HDDs start to restrict data flow. I do not run RAID and all my IDE's haven't failed yet to be replaced with SATA so that's why that's like that.

So, my point is, burn faster as long as your graphing quality on your disc burns looks great.
Burning at 2x is, in my opinion, bad. Again, it depends on the media but too slow isn't a good idea either. I can't speak for all media though but it's easily possible.

I am going to have to say, I disagree with what you are saying. You really have no proof to back anything you have said up. Because you have been able to burn a game at 8x or 6x doesn't mean that 2x is "bad" like you said. 2x is slow, but a reliable speed. I have burned games previously at 8x and 6x and the games did not work, but when burned at 2x, it worked fine. Burning 2x is in no way bad, as it is usually the speed most people will turn to when they need to make sure it gets burnt correctly.

you have completely misunderstood my entire post.

you will NOT have problems burning at the speeds i burn at if you do not have media conflictions with the burner! If you cannot burn past 4x then the media you are using is not "perfect" for your burner. I don't care if the media costs $50 per disc, money isn't the point, it's what works best.

I see a lot of people using Sony, BenQ and NEC burners which i have always been told to avoid these. I have also seen some people here using Pioneer. I don't boast the people who use what i use because i use them, i boast those who use these drives i use because that's how i've been taught and have never had a problem in the last 8 years of burning discs.

Also, when i said 2x is bad, the REST of that statement right after that said i don't speak for all media because not all media at 2x is bad. Try to understand what i am saying.

If you go out and purchase some premium quality 4x certified discs, 2x should be top notch quality if your burner approves the disc.
2x on 16x discs is a shady choice. Some 8x discs may not go well at 2x either.

But Again, if you can't burn above 4x, the media you are using just doesn't satisfy the burner in the premium quality department. that means a firmware update may be needed, a change of media or a change of burner.

I'm more into computers than modding consoles(i know very very little about) and am just passing along what i have been taught to anyone who may be reading this.

As I have said before FOR ME I burn @ 16x for everything Games, Movies, Data but that is because I trust my setup, media and programs. Now this is not to say everyone should do it as there are many variables so I just say go with what you know and what works.

that's great. You must have no data restriction at that speed.
All you gotta have is 1 SATAII drive really. I know they are cheap but no need to buy if i don't need it yet.

As long as your media and burner "love" each other, hehe, that's fantastic.

I've been up for almost 2 days now researching this GCOS loader and all other creators... a lot of info, lot of headaches and a lot of bookmarks, hehe.
