you don't need a umd in the tray to play games. the official sony np9660 loader in m33 firmware boots nearly all the games off the memory stick.
also, you need custom firmware to play games off the memory stick. custom firmware is less of a hassle than devhook, and can play all of the latest games.
ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure
got a whole lot more to list . . .

Well it's always better to have a UMD because:
1) It always works while No-UMD isn't 100% always working
2) An extra game for barely any extra weight.

1)3.40OE-A was the last firmware that doesn't work 100% with no-umd mode. 3.51M33, 3.52M33, 3.71M33 and 3.72HX works 100% with No-UMD mode.
2)UMD costs money. 30(Pounds) for just a tiny UMD Disc with data.
So No-UMD is better, I placed one of my UMD discs in my PSP and played several ISO(s) and it was just like it was in No-UMD mode.

Everyone has a game UDM because they needed it before in 3.40 OE-A and in previous versions so why not put it in the tray and get an extra game?
Logic!

OK. So some guy is looking forward to buy a PSP. He gets it and downloads lots of games. He has 3.71M33. Then he thinks "Oh wait! I'm going to buy a UMD because I think a UMD looks pretty in the UMD bay!".
Think about the new PSP owners.
Logic!
EDIT: You do know that when placing a UMD into the PSP makes the red light go off, even if you don't play it? You gotta give that red light as much rest as it can get.
It should drain maybe 2% of juice out of the PSP.

I agree with BTFan because my MS is kinda small. Having an extra game on my PSP that won't take up space is a must for me.

Yeah... You could always delete the game and D/L another game. If you buy a UMD and then complete the game, you leave it in that dark, dusty cold corner and you forget about that UMD. Like me =)

I was talking about old Sony PSP owners who needed a UMD in previous CFW.
Oh, wow, 2%.
What do you prefer, an extra game or 2% less of your battery?

Um... Extra 2% of battery :)
Old CFW users probably used the Demo disc - they would be absolutely retarded if they had a Demo disc and bought a UMD just to keep the UMD Mode working. Remember, in my last post I said that you could download the game, and once you've finished with the game, you could delete it. If you had a UMD, then you can do nothing but to leave it.
That's what I'd do, but I had OFW when I got all 5 of my UMD discs. I had 3.40OE-A before and used my Demo disc as a UMD. You see, I'm not retarded and spend money for nothing - when I can just DL/Backup into my PSP... Do you need another post of me explaining why NO UMD IS BETTER?

Nah, 2% can be something. Anyways, you wouldn't want to keep that red light running constantly if you're a heavy gamer - like me =)
