Hi there.
I have been using shrink with dvd decryptor to rip and backup dvd's for some time now. Usually I don't have any trouble. Once in a while I have to use ripitfor me and then shrink, but usually just shrink and decryptor alone is okay. Lately, it doesn't seem to matter what I do, shrink freezes up and the computer locks up. I have defragged, run scan disk, disk clean up, checked for spyware, viruses and I put in a new dvd writer to boot...After the new writer was installed, I had no trouble for a few days, now I am back to the freeze zone again.
I don't know what to do, I am about to drop kick this infernal machine out the window into the snow!
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Shrink has no burning software.
It will lockup on some new DVDs, but still works well.
Have you changed options in Shrink (Deep analysis analyzes).
Is you PC overheating?

I have used deep analysis, but found with most I didn't need it. Decryptor and shrink worked fine. After the new writer installation I had no problems, and now it's making me nuts. I have tried for three days to burn three different dvd's and get 1/2 way through only to freeze up. Then...wonder of wonders, tonight all three went through without a hitch! What the heck??? I haven't changed anything or done anything different. Is this infernal beast possessed?

No, it's not possessed. The only thing that you probably changed is the title you wished to copy. What titles weren't working? As the first replier said, it's most likely the newer encryptions.
Latest AnyDVD to rip > VOBB to blank the unwanted on a DVD > Shrink to compress > ImgBurn to burn = Never starting a thread asking how to backup a movie

It seems like they are sometimes.
I still do my backups the manual way with Shrink, Decrypter and IFOedit, so I do not keep up with the updates on rippers.

So looking for a updated ripper might be the best idea.

I just kept trying the same three titles and lo and behold all of a sudden they just worked. I have no idea why...there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. It was Live Free or Die Hard, Ocean's 13 and Santa Claus 3
Today, it is back to the freeze zone again with Hairspray...do you think I can be charged with murder if I kill this darn thing?

Perhaps it's a program running in the background. Interfering with shrink. Always close all other programs and do not use your computer when making backups. Go to Task Manager. Click on the Application tab, see what else is running.

I just did Ocean's 13 today. I used DVDFab HD Decrypter, DVD Shrink and burnt it with ImgBurn. It didn't have stern protection, but the movie is considerably huge.

Live Free or Die Hard has problematic structural protection. The release I have has both the theatrical and unrated versions. Selecting one version and preserving menus works okay. I needed to process the files with FixVTS after decryption. Then transcoding and burning went okay. Using RipIt4Me and movie only or movie + menu might do the job if RI4M will open it.

The compression is a bit high for doing both versions to one DVD5. That's why I split them. Most of the copy protection problems appear to be embedded in the extras.
