Help with Pinnacle please

Maybe I'm missing something here, but I can't find anything that helps me with my problem.

I'm trying to take old movies and put them on DVD using a Dazzle DVC 150 and Pinnacle Studio Quickstart version 8.10.

It all looks easy but all Pinnacle is burning is coasters.

What am i doing wrong? I'm capturing great video going to settings, capture format

-presets on "mpeg" and "custom"
-mpeg type on "mpeg2"
-resolution on "720x480"
-data rate set to "64,000 kbits/sec"

I edit my video and put "scene selections" and other things in...the preview video looks spectacular.

Then I go to Make Movie, settings, make a disc
-output format as "dvd"
-burn options as "burn directly to disc"

My understanding is that Pinnacle is supposed to burn these directly to DVD and be able to play in my DVD player...having all DVD options like "scene selection"

I've tried using Vegas Video 4, but the program does not recognise my Dazzle capture device.

I may try Adobe Premiere Pro Version 7.0 if this cry for help doesn't work.

I use Studio 8, I'm not familiar with Quickstart... Anywho, your settings look just fine to me. You said it burns coasters...does Studio 8 finish the burning process okay, or does it stop in the middle and produce an error message? Or is it that you cannot play the disc in the DVD player? Have you tried using software on your computer for DVD playback to make sure that it isn't your DVD player at fault? Not all DVD players support DVD-R discs.

The only thing I found confusing was the data rate...Isn't it typically something like 6 Mbits/sec, tops? 64,000 kbits/sec is kind of lot, but maybe it refers to something else. I'm not a pro, new to this myself.

Well I Would be useing a Real DVD authoring Program to Make the DVD...Capture your Files in Mpeg2 DVD format (Or to AVI then encode to Mpeg2 DVD format) and edit your files Then Import the Mpeg2 files into a Real DVD authoring Program like DVD-Lab or DVDit or Sonic DVD producer or one of many others...Studio 8 is Basicly just a Medium Quality Video editor it doesn"t have any Refined DVD authoring Functions, and Vegas Video is Just a Profecinal Editor with No DVD authoring Functions...And if you can Try to render your Projects in a Low Compression AVI or DV Format then use a Real Mpeg2 encoder to encode the Files to Mpeg2 as the Encodeing Functions in Most editing Programs especially Pinnacle Programs is Pretty low Quality..You can Probably use Half the bitrate with Better Quality useing a real encoder Like TMPGEnc, CCE or Procoder than with the Pinnacle Encoder....Cheers
