Honestly they are both good. I own both and use 3.6 more than 3.8
Just my preference. The only thing better with 3.8 is the fancier GUI and the option of using action replay cheats on your backups.

I've got a SCPH-79002. Any idea if there are 'Magic Keys' for this model? I don't want to use a fliptop for it since it'll void the warranty, in which case the mod-chip is the way to go.

Yep. There is a version one of magic keys and version 2. V1 works on the early slims (ones that didn't have a little metal piece covering the sensor inside the system). V2 works on later slims that do have the little metal piece.

When using SM 3.6 & 3.8 do you notice more or less noise coming from the ps2 ? Do you really think it's true that the 3.8 causes less strain ?

Read somewhere that the newest slims might need a 4th tool (in addition to the 3 tool MagicKeys2 set), which apparently isn't available. It seems to be a nightmare trying to get hold of any set of Magickeys here in Australia as well.

Both load up like normal games, and v3.8 seems to load a little bit more smoothly, but it is hardly noticable. I think it is just the GUI that looks really nice on v3.8
V3.6 just has a still image in the back and the basic funtions.
@SandNinja
You will need a way of booting the burned copy of swapmagic v1 (bootdisk, modchip, independance exploit). Which would defeat the purpose of having a burned copy of swapmagic.
@danny1988
I believe the latest version of slimline is v15 and those are compatible with magic keys II. As for where to purchase, I would check out modchip.com
I'm pretty sure they ship worldwide.

Hi Folks,
I saw on the French site that the Magic Keys 2 are not compatible with the version 17, models 79001, 70010 and 790XX.
Is this right?
Did anyone know about this issues? If is not compatible, which one keys Do We going to need to make the swap magic works with this new versions?
Thanks for your time and attention,
paulo

I had a message from the guys from Techwizad and they said the magic keys 2 should work just fine with the new slimline models, if anyone had that experience, please, post here.
Thanks.

I don't see why they wouldn't be compatible. The only new slims I've heard of are one's that will be integrating the ac adapter into the main system.

Hi,
Thats right.
THe motherboard is smalerl on the new versions, so they made it with ac adapter built-in and save money to make it cheaper.
Anyway, if there anyone who had tried, please, post here your comments,
thanks.

The SCPH-79002 (I have this one) is apparently the newest version that we can get hold of over here in Australia. I'm not really sure what the difference between this and the recent previous models are. Could Sony be trying to make it so software boots are a bit harder to make (if the 4th tool required is true)?
Officially, I haven't seen a place which says the MagicKeys support this version and the one before it, SCPH-75002.
