So I'm backing up DVD's on DVD Shrink 3.2 and about 75% of the time I get sound but no voice. Strange because often I'll get an alternate track, like french, or director comments, but never the original voice for the film. Sometimes I'm able to back up and it works perfectly, but this happens more often than not. I'm manually backing it up to my hard drive and burning with Nero 8 on a Vista 64-bit Ultimate system. Any solutions?

When Shrink opens, are you leaving the audio selections checked? Under Help at the top of the Shrink window you'll find Guides. The links are still good.

Try this. Download DVDFAB HD DECRYPTER. http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm
Instead of using SHRINK, use NERO RECODE.

I'm wondering about the 64 bit Vista. Most of us are still hanging on to the 32 bit XP and if I'm not mistaken, the 32 bit Vista is the more common. There has been an issue with DVD burners and audio with the 64-bit OS. Drivers have been a big issue in the past. Here's an article last updated in 01/07 that should shed some light on the problems.

If the OS isn't the problem another software option is installing AnyDVD and CloneDVD 2, both updated for Vista. DVDFab Platinum is another good program and does the entire job, Vista updated. Unforutunately, you can try them for free, but they're retail and shut down after the trial period.

If you want to stick with freeware, you'll need to diagnose your Shrink problem or go with a program like Rebuilder, that takes a bit longer to process files with.

The DVDIdle programs were updated for Vista, so the decryption program suggested by QuikDraw is the best free program you can get for Vista. DVDFab Platinum is the retail version I mentioned and it's the source of DVDFab HD Decrypter. The free program is updated each time the retail is.

I'm hoping your problem isn't your OS, but a lot of people have been having problems along those lines. Seems the 64 bit OS came out before mainstream software and hardware was ready for it.

You can check things out step by step. Try using DVDFab HD Decrypter. Check the files once you have them on your HD to make sure the audio and video are okay. If that checks out, then try transcoding with Shrink and save the output to the HD. Check again. If it doesn't work, use one of the newer programs written with Vista in mind. Corel DVDCopy 6 Plus, DVDFab Platinum, Nero Recode2, and CloneDVD 2 are good candidates and have good trial periods. Save the output to your hard drive and check once again at this stage. The last step is burning. All the programs mentioned are capable of burning. Or you can use the free ImgBurn to burn the output or if you have Nero, use Nero Express to burn the files from the HD to DVD.
