PSP UMD problem

My psp is a 3.40 Oe-A and i want to play Tony Hawks project 8 but it doesn't work.. and recently i found out i have to put a UMD in order to play it unlike other games. But here's the problem.. my PSP has a problem, it can't read UMD like the thingy is broken... so im wondering is there anyother way i can play it? if i upgrade it to a newer version will it matter? or is there some kind of hack that can solve this problem?

I think the problem is that THP8 needs a higher firmware than 3.40 so upgrade to 3.71 M33-3, where all games work and plus, you don't need a UMD to play ISOs on 3.71 M33-3 thanks to the new No-UMD feature.
