Is this ok if by mistake i soldered not only a,d,e,f,g,h,i points but also some other legs of this "socket". I obviously soldered them to their corresponding points on the board but still these are extra connections that are not shown at the diagram picture. I know that besides a,d,e,f,g,h,i points you don't need to solder any more legs of the socket but will this still work if you do solder couple more legs to the board? I'd appreciate any help and soz for my English.

i'd be very careful if i were you. follow the diagrams carefully and only solder exactly the points that they recommend. You could possible short out the chip or worse yet brick your drive. I have that exact chip and the hitachi 79fl drive. The 79 drives are very sensitive. Take your time, be patient and don't rush because it brick your drive before you get the drive key, your xbox360 is garbage. good luck bro.

drogomir: but when u place this socket on the board (the one which you plug one end of the tape into) some of its legs that do not correspond with points a,d,e,f,g,h,i are resting on copper traces anyway so even if i didn't solder them by mistake there is still a pretty good chance that they would touch the traces anyway. Please help, drive is lying opened up on my desk and I dunno if I shall proceed. thanks

The chances are very high that if you soldered to anywhere other than what was specified, you will brick your drive.

Can you post a picture of your soldering?

euromp: If there are areas touching that aren't apart of the soldering directions then put a piece of electrical tape betwwen them or use some clear nailpolish gloss to cover these traces. if in the future you need to remove the nail polish, use nail polish remover on a q-tip. It's very important that only the exact points to be soldered, are soldered. Even something as simple as a passkey touching the metal dvd case cover can shortout the key. So you may want to put electrical tape over the key after you're sure it's been installed correctly.
