corrupt mem card?; what's with the R button.. ; 3.60m33?

Few lil questions.

question #1
I got a PSPslim the other week and a guy I know put the 3.60m33 thing on it using the pandora battery and stuff. I have a 1gig memory stick that came with the PSP that works fine and my few backed up games work playing off of it with no problems.

I just bought a 4gig memory stick online from a shop on pricegrabber that says it's a sony memorystick pro duo, I popped it in my psp and put some of my backups on it and started playing. Next day.. the two games I played wouldn't load the save states as it said the files were corrupted, thought it was weird but oh well; also I noticed some of the icons for my games were all funky and split and fuzzy. Next day... couldn't load my save state in one of my games as it said it was corrupted again. Most now say error 80020148 on the new 4gb mem card.
My old 1gb memory card still works.
Is this from the 4gb memory card being corrupted? or is this because the guy I know fixed the 1gb card to work? should I take him the 4gb card to fix with the pandora thing or .. what do you think is the problem?

I've read through here and searched and sometimes I see people say to hold down the R-button while starting up to get into recovery mode; when I hold the R-button down on mine it just boots normally. Is this because of 3.60m33 or.. am I doing something wrong?

reading up on the updates confused me... 3.71m33-4 is the latest now, right, so can I now update on my own without the pandora thing since I have 3.60m33 already, or would I still need the battery to go from 3.60m33 to 3.71m33?

Hey!

#1) Possibly a fake memory stick, put a couple of movies onto it and see if all of them show up. If it isn't fake, then format the stick and try again.

#2) It should work, try holding down the R trigger first, and then turning it on.

#3) You can update straight to 3.71 M33 without using a Pandora.
