Ok I have an xbox 360, its about a year old and there are a few things wrong with it. I have the Samsung-Toshiba dvd drive, it refuses to open on its own, I actualy have to softly bang on the top or side depending on how it is positioned. I have scratched 3 copies of oblivion by knocking it over while playing, Im not sure if that damaged the lens but that was a few months ago, it was working fine untill now. I was trying to play assassins creed and it wouldn't read the disc, then I tryed other discs and it will start up, make several scratching noises, say reading, then after a few minutes it will say "Open Tray", Ive opened my xbox 360 and cleaned it but it still wont work. Will I need a new dvd drive or can I fix my current one? If I need a new one how I do I install it? Please Help!
I would say knocking it over several time could be the cause of some drive problems for sure. If it got slightly off allignment that could cause the door not to open correctly. It could also put the laser out of allignment which causes all your read problems. I am sure you could fix it, but it would require a decent amount of knowledge when it comes to DVD drives.
See it also scratched the very outside circle of my xbox demo disc yesterday and the are some other scratches on the disc. But thanks for the help, any other help is welcome!
You could just buy another laser online and replace the laser. It's very simple. Check one of those modchip sites and buy a laser. The same laser that works in the hitachi works in the samsung. Electronics are very delicate, so try your best not to knock it over. Another thing you could do is get the drive key from the samsung and spoof the key and insert it in a new dvd drive. There's plenty of tutorials around on spoofing. You probable should retrieve the samsung key before the drive goes completely dead. Good luck.
