I use a MSI FX5600-VTDR128 card (which has a video-in plus S-video input) to capture from a Sony Hi8 camcorder and a VHS VCR. With several capturing software (VirtualDub, avi_io, Adobe Premiere, Sony MyDVD, etc.), there is a horizontal blank area in the middle of the captured video. (Only the top 1/3 and bottom 1/3 of the video is captured.) This happens in almost 90% of the frames, although during the capturing process the monitor shows all frames just fine.

Any expert knows what might be happening here? Why will it drop all the lines in
the middle? Thanks in advance.

A technician helped me by updating one nVidia driver and one MSI software update. This problem seems to go away for me so far. We figure it is probably the nVidia update (which updates the BIOS on the nVidia chip.)

To do so, I remember he did it through Win 2000

Start -> Window Update (upper menu)

and look for driver update. It will show you what you need.

The MSI update can be done from www.msi.com.tw
site, but this may not be needed.

I tried doing an update of the WDM drivers from Nvidia in the past and then I could not capture at all after that...went back to the former driver.I can not get the msi update software program to work at all, I have two of the tabs on the video properties page which only cause the app to crash. Do you think win 2000 would be the same as Win XP?
