OK, so I bought a new 360 Arcade and, yep, it came with the dreaded 79fl. I should have read 360drives first, but that is stupid decision #1.

So then I started reading the posts on here and 360mods and bought the 79 passkey.
Now in my unenviable rush to get this done, I started scraping off the epoxy from the chip to prep it for soldering. Get ready, here is where stupid decision #2 comes in..... I seem to have scraped off the traces or most of them coming from the chip! Doh!!! Now, I'm really not a stupid man, just very impatient. Now I have a lovely new 360 Arcade version that doesn't see the drive. I forget the error but its obvious its due to stupid #2 above.

So, before this goes flying out the window, any way of getting this working? Either by fixing the traces, soldering the passkey and going with it OR by somehow getting the chip off, replacing the drive with a 78 and dumping the key from the dead drive onto the 78? Or am I F'ed.

Anybody interested in getting this done for me? I'll pay a reasonable fee.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Flamers, go nuts, I deserve it. I modded dozens of old xboxes with those nice clear fat solder points but this is almost frigging ridiculous.

Thanks.

I've modded over 300 360's so far and I haven't even attempted this one. I looked at the chip and saw how close the legs are and say "Oh hell no"

Sorry man, but my only advice to you is to either try Xbox-Scene or taking the drive to an electronics repair shop. They might be able to repair the traces with flux or whatever it is they use. I'm sure you could also do it yourself if you researched alot more.

I avoid 0079FL's like the plague. Sorry to hear you have one and for the trouble you've been through.
