What are the best drives out now, give me a few to work with, and how much should I expect to pay for one on ebay? This'll be much cheaper than buying a new one... =/

@G4MERZOID:

I have been given a faulty xbox, the dvd drive is screwed. Am I right in saying that if you put a pc drive in it will only play backups? Obviously u need a modchip for this. I ahev read a few articles on it which suggest that for some games u need an original xbox game in the existing dvd drive. This will be a proble for me as the original one is screwed. Is this true or will I be able to load backups using the pc drive?

Thanks

skooby

skoobz...my dvd drive is screwed also so iam using my asus pc drive.
the pc drives will only play backups yes (unless u use certain type of samsung, then solder stuff and loads so dont bother :P), go to your nearest pc store or sumwhere and get a power splitter, unplug the xbox hdd power cable, plug that into the splitter, one end back into the hdd, and the other into your pc dvd drive that u have removed and placed into your xbox. also you must have the drive in Master/Single mode, then put the ribbon cable into the drive and away u go!
the thing about putting an original in the other drive....dont worry i have had mine in months now and have not once needed to do that!! :D
