Hi there,
I am trying to upload video recordings from my Panasonic VCR ?D250, using a Sony DVD-RW disc using DVD-MovieAlbumSE.

I get an error saying:
the disc in drive F cannot be used (format type unknown)
Insert AV format (UDF 2.0 type DVD-RAM/DVD-RW disc in the drive.

When I try to open the camera through Explorer, it shows up as a CD drive and I get another error:
F: is not functional
Incorrect function

I have managed to upload fine from Panasonic DVD-RAM discs.
The instructions say that I can use DVD-RW in the same speed, but it does also say VR format or Video format. Is this the problem?
Any help most appreciated. This is really new to me and it is footage of our little baby - and we have 3 discs!
Cheers
Dianne

hi

VR format is slightly different to a standard dvd format structure (eg: dvd film) it has extra files on it...

at what stage do you see the warning VR format you mentioned?

the dvd-ram disc would that of had the same type infomation on it as the dvdRW ? if so, then the computer drive you are useing doesnt like the DVDRW, sometimes this can be remeded through a firmware update to the drive via the makers website, this can? help better reading of more brands of disc medias...

what are you trying to do with the infomation once collected to your pc?

also being a dvdRW its rewritable would the Panasonic VCR ?D250 know this and treat it as such and wont FINALIZE the disc thinking you may write more infomation to it, so its down to you on your Panasonic VCR ?D250 to manually finalize, when finalized the computer may read it better... this process via a pc is called multisession left open for adding more files at a later stage...

Thanks for your answer
I did not get the error until I attached the camcorder unit to the PC and opened DVD-MovieAlbumSE. When i used the disc in the unit it was fine and we got no errors or problems.
The DVD-RAM disc had the same type of recordings on it - just general family stuff.
Can you please elaborate on "a firmware update to the drive via the makers website"
Maker of our PC - Dell or the Panasonic VCR ?D250 or the disc - Sony?
I am just trying to store it on the PC at this stage - as a MPG and then will edit them using DVDfunSTUDIO and then write to DVD's.
I tried it being finalised and then I went back and unfinalised. The
Panasonic VCR ?D250 recognises it ok.
Yes I loaded the software enclosed with the Panasonic VCR ?D250.
Ahhh - THIS COULD BE THE PROBLEM - I just looked at the disc i loaded and it says:
DVD-RAM Driver but DOES NOT say DVD-RW driver (even though the instruction book say they are ok to use) Could this be the problem? If so how do I load up a DVD-RW driver?
thanks
Dianne

firmware is for the pc drive, dell. check there website for a firmware update. or if you can tell me the model number...

ok im getting abit lost here? is this right you are trying to read a dvd-rw disc in your dell computer and it wont see it? made from your panasonic stand alone dvd recorder (or is it a camera?) that made the disc? are we talking about 2 diferent hardwares? aswell as a dell pc?

check the makers website of the device for driver updates also.

are you saying you finalised the dvdRW then tryed loading in the dell pc to be read and it wont recognize it still?

--------------

are you useing a -RW and not a +RW?

Nothing here to see, move along folks.

Yes
I loaded the software enclosed with the Panasonic VCR ?D250.
but it was only for a DVD-RAM Driver but DOES NOT say DVD-RW driver
I did a search on the PC for DVD-RW but it came up with nothing.

How do I load up a DVD-RW driver? I tried on the net but no luck so far.... i am not that great at this stuff.
Any suggestions?
thanks
Dianne

hi

for the the dvdRW driver check the makers website of the Panasonic VCR ?D250 see what downloads they have for it or updates...

to find out what model dvd drive you have in your dell and firmware loaded for it, get a free software called IMGBURN, then go to > tools/Drive/check for firmware updates

Nothing here to see, move along folks.

I am not using our DVD drive as i am playing the disc through the camcorder linked to the PC through a USB port.
Therefore i do not think this is relevant.
I managed to load a DVD-RW driver and it has helped. Now I can play the files through explorer. But they are VOB files. I still get the same original error in DVD-MovieAlbumSE.
When i played/copied the DVD-RAM disc they were MPG files and worked fine in DVD-MovieAlbumSE.
I have just found a page in the instructions:
When using brand-new DVD-RW:
It says to select whether to record in DVD VR format or Video format and then format the disc. I do not think we did this - we just started using the disc.
Could this be something to do with it?
thanks

yes dvdvr are vobs and video format is probably mpeg...

also i think you can rename the xxxxxxxxx.vob file to xxxxxxxxx.mpeg and your app may see it...

where there any other files with the vob?

Nothing here to see, move along folks.

there are BUP and IFO files with the VRO files

I am reluctant to change the file extensions on the actual disc in case it makes them unusable.
I tried copying the files from the disc to another folder on the hard drive and then changed the extension to MPEG but when I tried opening them in DVD-MovieAlbumSE i got an error saying:
"correctly copied video recording data does not exist in the selected folder. Select a DVD-RTAV folder that was copied using a copy tool".
ideas please?
