G'day, I am trying to capture video using my Radeon 9800 XT. I bought the card hoping I could do video capturing with it however, the drivers don't seem to install. I've un-installed the card mulitple times, un-installed the drivers, removed from the hardware settings and have re-installed the drivers using the instructions ATI provides "to the letter" and still not drivers installed. Every program doesn't recognize the hardware. I could really use some help. I've downloaded the latest drivers, Quick Start guide as well as User Manual. Interesting part is, no where does it say about caputuring video, simply displaying using S-Video out or multiple monitors. Could someone please clarify if I am even ABLE to capture video using this card? I have an NVIDIA GeForce 4 card on my second PC and no problems whatsoever with installing drivers or having it recognize the hardware/software.

ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

Heeeheee.... that's ATi Drivers for ya :-) Seriously though, that'a s sweet card but the drivers do bring it down.... I dont know much about ATi anymore because I cut ties with them after a string of very bad experiences but from what ive seen, I would recommend you try the Catalyst 3.7 drivers? (I hear those are the most stable... if there can be such a thing).

Yes, it is a very sweet card. Just having a hard time getting the capture drivers to work. Nvidia makes a sweet card as well however, this ATI card was getting the highest reviews.

Hehe its not all about reviews dude (as I'm sure you are finding out)... good reviews just mean they work well for those people hehe.

Yes,
I am finding that out now. ATI offers sh!t for support, their driver download instructions are "whatck" and hey, it still won't capture video. But, to be perfectly honest, no where have "I" seen it where it says that it "captures" video. Where-as, I have an NVIDIA GeForce 4 440 MX 8x that actually claims to capture video but, that one does actually work "as advertised".

Have you got an "All-In-Wonder" Card?

I believe that only the Cards with the AiW Brand can capture video.

No, I do not have an AiW card. It has an S-Video port like my NVIDIA but, seems it's for multiple monitor support only. Not a huge issue, just wanted to be able to capture video and thought that I could. Oh well, it performs awesomely. Still happy.
