Do I need a Classic controler to install wiikey update 1.9g?

Hi
I am tyrying to update my wiikey to 1.9g (US).My Wii firmware is at 3.1u. I put in the update date dvd and go through the steps. I get to a part that says hit "A" or reset to preform test. The "A" button doesn't work so I hit reset and it does the test. It says Suscess and then tells me to hit any button. This is where I get stuck. I don't have a classic controler, and no buttons will work on the other remotes. Is there more steps to updating the wiikey. I try just ejecting the update dvd, an then try SMG, but still getting 0001 error.

You don't need the controller m8 - everything can be done using the reset button on the Wii. Make sure you run the donfig disk as well to enable region override etc. And also you should power down the Wii and restart it.
