Hey guys, recently my 360 has been freezing during the whole "Xbox 360 startup screen" (Before it gets to xbox dashboard) I've tried a couple of different things to see if they help but nothing is working, so far I've tried removing the HDD and then start up, removing the DVD then start up both with no luck, for mods the only thing I've done is mod the case and install blue LED's for the ring of light...so I dont even know if it the 3 red ring of death since that even doesnt work, I will say this, sometimes I can get to the dashboard but as soon as I select an option it freezes on me....any clues....if I have to I'll buy a new 360...but I'm not paying MS 140.00 to fix it, I dont think they would anyway seeing as how I already modded it! Thanks again guys!

Unfortunatley I ruined the original LED's so thats out of the question,....In regard to my case mod, I painted the case black (Krylon Paint) but kept a few things white like the USB Port cover both of the memory slot covers, the little button that sync's up yer wireless controller that was kept white, I also painted both of the mesh screens (On either side of the 360) White as well....looks cool I also cut and added plexiglass to the top of the console two squares leaving the Xbox logo intact. I'll probably go with a third party repair service, since MS probably wont touch my modded 360 unless anyone here has heard of sending in case modded 360's and getting them repaired. my plan is to buy a new console and repair my modded one and keep the regular console on backup.

Mine was freezing all over the place also. Would give me about 1min of run time then it locked. I did an x clamp replacement two months ago and it hasnt froze up since. My guess is your box is overheating really really fast. If you take the case off and stick a fan on it you should get a few more min of run time to let you know its overheating.

In a nutshell, try an x clamp replacement, its already broke anyway.

Even with the x-clamp replacement, it will eventually happen again and again. My console will play for days then the 3RLoD will appear again. Then I have to go through the process of loosening the clamp replacement, allowing it to overheat to re-flow the solder, and then re-tightening the screws. This happens even after I added after-market fans and run it without the case. I've done this SOOOO many times that I've lost track of how many times I did it.

I want to buy a new console with the design improvements and additional heat sink but no one seems to know which retail packages have these improvements. I don't want to buy a console with the same design flaws and go through this all over again.

OK so It's been a few days since I ran my 360....I just got the XCM SD Cover for my DVD-ROM drive in the mail today and I installed it, (looks great by the way!) after a few adjustments I got the DVD-ROM to pop out and I put in one of my discs.....my screen has stopped freezing...but so far I havent had it on for more than a few minutes, I just wanted to see what it looked like when the disc cranked up and stuff, kinda cool! but I'm pretty sure that my Xbox problems are gonna come back! I'm thinking bout doing an X-clamp replacement, but as "zelac1" said...he has to do it like every week....I heard if you dont do it correctly that it probably wont work for ya! Has anyone heard of third party Xbox service places like www.xboxdummy.com if they are worth the money or not?
