Installing updates from M$ to play Xbox Original games -- is it safe?

Hey everyone:


I need my 360 to play original games, but when I put one in it says, "This original Xbox game is not supported on your Xbox 360 console. An update to support this game may be available. For more info, go to www.xbox.com/games. Version: 1.0"

I went to the M$ website and found this page:
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/backwardscompatibility.htm
which allows to download the file "BackCompat_11-2007.zip" to fix this.

Now the question -- I have modded Samsung drive and have couple games downloaded from the Internet. Is it safe to install this update? Has anyone tried it before?
