XP won't successfully start up..sometimes

I built a machine about a year ago and have been running linux with no problems. Didn't even have to set up drivers for suse that I had to set up for windows.

A few days ago I deleted all my partitions and installed XP pro. It works fine, but about half the time I get the "We're sorry...windows didn't successfully start up" screen. Sometimes it will start from that point if I use the last known successful start up option or the start windows normally option. Other times after I select start either option it still reboots itself. When it reboots itself it may start up correctly or go back to the unsuccessful start up page.

On top of that, once in a while when I reach the sign on screen my keyboard won't work. The mouse will work, but not the keyboard. Since I can't type in my password I have to restart and hope I can make it back that far.

This gets to be pretty frustrating, especially since I know that it can start normally when it chooses to.

My drivers are all installed and I've got all my windows updates. My boot sequence and BIOS are set correctly too.

some specs:
MSI k8ngm2-fid motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 3500+
Cosair (512 x 2) dual channel RAM
2 x Seagate 80gb hard drives (didn't set up raid since I'm already having these issues)
PowerColor ATI theater 550 tv tuner

Was planning on installing an ATI HD 3850 video card, but I would like to get this issue resolved first.

Any suggestions?
