hi,

ive jsut ordered my VIA6421A pCI card off ebay, so it should come in a few days or so.

in the time being, i need to fidn the Maximum 360 firmware toolbox 3.1 (or latest version) but i cant find it anywhere.

this is going by a PDF tutorial that shows you how tio flash every drive with instructions etc...and assuming that SLAX 2.1 will DEFINITELY get me inot mode B this is the only program i need.

could someone please help?

thanks

slax 2.1 will work. i have the hitachi 78fk and it worked for me every time i did it. the latest maximus toolbox is 4.5, i believe. you can get it from here....

btw, you MAY not need to wait for the 6421 card. i used the sata off my motherboard and it worked like a charm.

as ive got a 0078fk drive, can i use iextreme? whats the latest version?

i can se on the link theres a 'maximum xtreme 1.6 .....does that need to be used with this drive as its been flashed with the maximum software or can i jsut use the hitachi 1.2 or 1.3 iextreme firmware?

no, trying your motherboard sata connection shouldn't mess anything up. it'll just "not work". if it doesn't work, you won't be able to get into mode b and it won't show up in windows as an active DVD device.

Yes, you can use iExtreme that comes with Maximus Toolbox 4.5 I think it has v1.2 in it, which should be fine. There might be a newer version (v1.3), but I'm not sure. I used v1.2 (that is already built into Maximus Toolbox 4.5) and it works great.

i used the textbook tutorial...which sounds like the same one you are following. i don't remember the exact step, but it's pretty obvious. there is a drop down menu at the bottom middle of the control box that allows you to choose the firmware. it defaults to iXtremem 1.2 (or 1.3, i don't remember). i went with that, and everything worked great.

your going to have to open your xbox anyways because you are hooking up the drive to the computer. I dont think there will ever be any other way because you have to know your drive version just to know what method to use to flash it. Since other drives keep coming out they have come up w/new ways to work w/the drives.
