Pretty nooby like, but i cant seem to find this answer anywhere.
What are the advantages to "modding" your xbox 360? everyone talks about it and i havnt got a clue why? just some light on the subject please.

Am also new to the 360 scene as my kids 360 is wrapped up till Christmas. Modding involves any kind of modification that voids the warrenty for your 360 mind (or whatver system you are modding), but allows the play of backed up games on said system. ie, a game you have copied to a DVD. Modding games comsoles has been about for years and most systems have some kind of mod chip available for them.

I saw you said you got a new xbox360. I would suggest you unwrap it and check the tray. If its black you have a Benq and they have firmware for flashing that drive. If it gray you got a 50/50 chance of being a v78 or v79. Since its new hopefuly you got the black try. That is one way to check if you flash it w/o opening it up ti check the version. Also putting a modchip will deffently void warranty. Try just to flash it. Dont break the seal either that will void it.Do what I did take a blowdryer and use it on the M$ warranty sicker for about 30sec. also use a razor blade to gentlly take it off and place it on a wax paper. I have done this and it works.

The advantages of the mod is in my opinion is you never have to pay for games again. A case of 20verbatium DVD DL are about $60. Thats what you pay for just one game. I have the DVD ROM flashed w/Keron for my computer. I just get a monthy game pass and burn them.
