Is there anyway I could format just the linux partition on my ps3 so that I could install another distro? I'm thinking about switching from YDL to ubuntu. I have my reasons why I don't want to do a full format of my ps3.

I'm pretty sure you cannot. I had to switch from YDL to Ubuntu and that took about 3 hours to do a full format. Pretty sure that's your only option.
