I have been doing some research and finally want to start putting a custom PS2 together. I have an older fat PS2 and the internet adapter. I read that only IDE hard drives are compatible with the PS2, so when I was looking for one I was finding listings saying SATA/IDE or ATA/IDE making it look like they are the same thing. I also saw a listing here
http://www.modchipstore.com/PlayStation-...mbos-1-260.html

selling a Seagate ATA hard drive which says is perfect for PS2/Xbox. So are ATA hard drives also compatible? What about SATA? Or are they the same thing? I was looking at bestbuy and circuitcity and it seems they don't carry many IDE hard drives, so buying a SATA would be a lot easier and cheaper.

If anyone can help I would appreciate it. thanks.

ata/ide drives are the ones to get. maxtor is the one recommended for ps2 because they are used in the official 40gig hdd.

sata is not compatable with the network adapter. the whole design of the plug is completely different. and you can't use a sata to ide adapter because there's no space left when the hdd and network adapter is connected and placed in the ps2.

ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd

got a whole lot more to list . . .

yes. they're the same. the S is serial. good for computers; won't work at all for the ps2.
