UDF Format?

Does anyone know what the UDF Format is? I was trying to burn a file that was over 2 gigs in the ISO format, but got an error message in Nero suggesting I use the UDF Format instead. I don't know what that is and to get around the problem I had to split the ISO file into two parts and take them into Nero seperatly. They ended up burning fine , but it was a pain in the ass splitting the file. It was a video file, does that have anything to do with it.
